Yleisöllä on mahdol­li­suus tulla seuraa­maan Joensuun kaupun­gi­nor­kes­terin illan konsertin kenraa­li­har­joi­tusta. Kyseessä on harjoitus, jossa orkesteri soittaa läpi illan konsertin ohjel­miston ja kapel­li­mes­tari voi halutes­saan keskeyttää harjoi­tuksen. Kenraa­li­har­joi­tuksen kesto on maksi­mis­saan kolme tuntia.

Suomen kansain­vä­li­sesti tunne­tuim­piin nykysä­vel­tä­jiin kuuluva Kalevi Aho (s.1949) viettää 75v ‑juhla­vuot­taan, jonka kunniaksi orkesteri esittää Ahon sävel­tämän Sonata concer­tanten. Teos on alun perin sävel­letty harmo­ni­kalle ja jousille vuonna 1984, mutta jonka lopul­linen versio valmistui vasta vuonna 1989.

Myöhemmin myös harmo­nik­ka­tai­tei­lija Janne Valkea­joki innostui 1. harmo­nik­ka­so­naa­tista, ja hän ehdotti, että Aho laatisi sonaa­tista lisäksi konser­toivan version harmo­ni­kalle ja jousille – Valkea­joen mielestä sonaatti on olemuk­sel­taan niin orkestraa­linen. Näin teosta voitai­siin esittää myös kamarior­kes­te­rien konser­teissa. Valkea­joki teki syksyllä 2018 itse luonnoksen täksi konser­toi­vaksi versioksi, ja sen pohjalta Aho loi elokuussa 2019 Sonata concer­tanten, joka pohjautu varsin tarkasti alkupe­räi­seen sonaattiin.

Konsertin päättää Beetho­venin Sinfonia nro 2, jonka hän sävelsi kulta-aikanaan 1700- ja 1800-lukujen taitteessa. Beethoven aloitti toisen sinfo­niansa kirjoit­ta­misen tuotte­liaim­pana mutta paradok­saa­li­sesti masen­ta­vim­pana aikanaan, sillä sävel­lys­työtä vaikeutti alkava kuurou­tu­minen ja sosiaa­listen kanssa­käy­misten vähen­ty­minen. Kuitenkin sateen­kaaren päässä näkyy valoa, sillä teoksen henki on positii­vinen, rohkea ja inspi­roiva. 1700-luvun lopun lopulla Beethoven notee­rat­tiin paikal­li­sesti ja ulkomaita myöten, jolloin häneltä tilattiin teoksia enemmän kuin hän pystyi säveltämään.

The public will have the oppor­tu­nity to come and watch the Joensuu City Orche­stra’s general rehearsal for the evening concert. This is a rehearsal in which the orchestra plays through the programme of the evening concert and the conductor can interrupt the rehearsal if he wishes. The maximum duration of the dress rehearsal is three hours.

Kalevi Aho (b.1949), one of Finland’s most inter­na­tio­nally renowned contem­po­rary composers, is celebra­ting his 75th birthday and the orchestra will perform the Sonata concer­tante composed by Aho. The work was origi­nally composed for accordion and strings in 1984, but the final version was not completed until 1989.

Later, accor­dio­nist Janne Valkea­joki also became enthusiastic about the 1st Harmonic Sonata and suggested that Aho should also compose a concert version for accordion and strings – Valkea­joki felt that the sonata was so orche­stral in nature. In this way, the work could also be performed in chamber orchestra concerts. In autumn 2018, Valkea­joki himself made a draft of this concert version, and in August 2019 Aho created a Sonata concer­tante based very closely on the original sonata.

The concert will conclude with Beetho­ven’s Symphony No 2, composed during his golden age in the mid-1700s and 1800s. Beethoven began writing his second symphony at the most produc­tive but paradoxically depres­sing time of his life, as his work was hampered by the onset of deafness and a decline in social interac­tion. However, there is light at the end of the rainbow, as the spirit of the work is positive, coura­geous and inspiring.
